Richard Zampella is the owner and proprietor of Skipperdee’s Ice Cream Parlor located in Point Lookout, NY. He started in the restaurant industry washing dishes at the age of 16 at a local seafood restaurant in his hometown of Newfoundland, NJ.
Since then, he has worked in every discipline of the food service industry, from the front of the house to the back and has worked & consulted to major hotel companies, such as the Plaza & Starwood Hotel Corporation, to esteemed restaurant groups like Smith & Wollensky, Fireman Restaurant Group and Joe Baum, to legendary restaurants such as the Rainbow Room, Le Cirque and the Oyster Bar at Grand Central.
He created Skipperdee’s in 2010, and has been quoted to say, “The food service industry gets into your blood; walk into any restaurant kitchen in the world at 8 o’clock on a Saturday night and you will feel right at home”.
As a business owner in the hamlet of Point Lookout, NY he places a special emphasis on community service and is the President of the Point Lookout NY Chamber of Commerce and sits on the executive board of the Point Lookout Historical Society.
